Different formats have been used for submissions by teams and if anything is unclear, please let us know. Some of these designs are commissioned by EKansh Trust and others are from our contest finalists and winners.
As all designs are visual, we apologize to those who are unable to see them. Verbal descriptions may not be of much help but we would be happy to provide them if necessary.
*This is a unique and valuble catalog. The contest and catalog were conceptualized by Anita Iyer Narayan, and implemented by EKansh Trust with all those who participated on different levels. Importance of this catalog
India has a huge number of People with Disabilities [1 in 15, if not more]. Many have trouble finding affordable clothes that they can use comfortably on a daily basis. Many of them also need help from caregivers. It is imperative that clothing design takes their comfort and dignity into consideration. Mass manufacturing of adaptive clothing may not be a lucrative or sustainable option given that each person will have different needs and budgets.
The designs featured below can be tweaked and used by anyone anywhere - free!
We would love to receive your designs and feature them too in the format mentioned on the poster above. We also have and invite interns to send us new and existing [with due credit] designs in the required format. You can copy and use the designs for free. You can use different elements from different designs according to your need.
Disclaimer: The designs are from various sources, mainly students of fashion design. We have requested that credit for inspiration be given where due. Many of these designs are also by teams that were shortlisted at our Adaptive Design Contest held last year and were tailored for and worn by mentors with disabilities. We realize that while they may not be useful exactly as they are, you can pick and choose elements from different designs that you think will work for you, print the pictures and show them to your tailor who can then create your own adaptive garment.
*The pictures are not accessible for people with Visual Challenges, we would be happy to explain the concepts to you individually if you are interested.
